Earmarks are a cancer on the budget and for far too long Pinellas County has been represented by Rep. Bill Young who has danced around ethical rules to put amendments in the budget for hundreds of millions of dollars for lobbyists and special interests who, in turn, put money into his campaign account. Congressman Young even amended the budget with an earmark that sent $13 million to New York Harbor for a tourist attraction to compete with Florida. This corrupting behavior has gone on long enough. When elected as your representative, I will never engage in unethical earmarking for personal gain and will seek to punish those who do.
