"Thank you for being here today. It is great to see so many people passionate about preserving our beaches.
This is special to me - this is not far from where I grew up. Played on these beaches. It is where I bring my young daughters to play as well.
It is important for you all to be here because the leaders in Tallahassee have a short memory - they've already forgotten that a spill shut down Texas beaches for 5 days - that would have a $50 million negative impact in Pinellas.
They forgot that 2009 was already a bad year for Tourism in Pinellas with 200,000 fewer visitors than the year before - we cannot afford to place more risk on our precious beaces.
And my final thought with you today - we are drawing a line in the sand. That means we have determined that we will not accept any further damage -
that means WE WILL NOT NEGOTIATE WITH THE OIL INDUSTRY and WE WILL NOT NEGOTIATE WITH THE LOBBYISTS!"
