Bill Young's Bridge to Nowhere

St Pete Times: According to the investigative report, Bill Young recently awarded a $500,000 earmark to a somewhat unscrupulous “developer” in Tampa who ran a shady organization that disbanded a year ago! That’s half a million dollars of your hard-earned tax money going into the hands of an apparent local scam artist and a non-existent organization. This looks an awful lot like Bill Young’s version of a “bridge to nowhere.”

Justice Goes After Young's Earmark Prowess

St Pete Times: Today, Democratic challenger Charlie Justice kicked off what he said would be a rolling "indictment" against the veteran lawmaker by highlighting $13 million Young plugged into the 1998 federal budget to convert the U.S.S. Intrepid into a museum in New York. The money was not sought by the Navy. “It’s curious that a congressman who represents a tourist destination state like Florida would hide $13 million in taxpayers’ money for a tourist destination in New York Harbor..."

Justice-Young Duel Now Set

Creative Loafing: Immediately after Young’s announcement...Charlie Justice, released a statement, where he continued his theme that Young is what John McCain might describe as a “porker,” saying: "A huge sigh of relief is being heard from the special-interest lobbyists who fuel Congressman Bill Young’s campaigns with contributions in return for questionable earmarks that have become symbolic of everything that is wrong with Washington."
